The David Wojnarowicz Foundation: Advancing the legacy of an activist artist

The David Wojnarowicz Foundation’s mission is to preserve, advance and honor the legacy of David Wojnarowicz—his life, art, writing, and fierce commitment to social justice.

Our extensive Ideation phase resulted in a comprehensive compilation of documentation around the artist’s life and work. In collaboration with Wojnarowicz’s estate, gallery, museums, universities, and other artists’ trusts world-wide, we have compiled a virtual archive of audio, video, and photographic materials (some rarely seen by the public).

Working with creative director, Jean Foos (who worked with David to create his ‘One Day This Kid’ piece), we created a new brand identity incorporating David’s first trademark, the burning house. We designed and engineered a responsive website designed to mirror David’s color, typographic and graphic inclinations. Researched and compiling an electronic mailing list and quarterly e-newsletter.

Our extensive research and content development feeds into our social media strategy targeting a new generation of advocates for David’s work via Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Threads. Of late, our strategy involves sharing archival materials such as film reels, a timeline of David’s life, details of paintings, and more.
